Just Looking?
If you are new to Christianity and to the claims of Jesus Christ may I invite you to come along to our Sunday Evening Services (6:30pm) and to ask us as many questions as you like? We are currently looking at Jesus' teaching in the "Sermon on the Mount", which can be found in Matthew's Gospel - chapters 5-7. Or you could drop us a line. We'd love to hear from you!
In short, Christians believe that the human race is alienated from God because of the wrong things - sins - that we have all done. We believe that Jesus is God in human form and that He died on a cross to take our place so that we may live. Because Jesus paid the price we needed to bring us back to God, on the cross, we can have God's forgivness and live a whole new, eternal life with Him. Now that is good news!!!

Christian beliefs are best summarised in the following statement:
"I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended to the dead: The third day he rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: I believe in the holy catholic* church: the communion of saints: The forgiveness of sins: The resurrection of the body: And the life everlasting. Amen."
* catholic here refers to the universal, world-wide Church.

If you want to know where to start in reading the Bible, then may I recommend Mark's Gospel? The gospels are eye-witness accounts of the life of Jesus - Mark's being the shortest and first written (if you would like a free copy, just ask!). Alternatively the Pslams and Proverbs are great for dipping in and out of.
